Core-Selective Evaluation Process (C-SEP) is a pattern of strengths and weaknesses (PSW) approach to SLD identification that involves a comprehensively, targeted, and purposeful evaluation process that integrates multiple sources of data with norm-references test results and professional judgment. C-SEP is an assessment model (collecting and considering multiple sources of data) and not a testing model (C-SEP does not focus on single test scores).
This manual, Core-Selective Evaluation Process: Overview and Procedures (C-SEP), is designed to provide an overview of C-SEP and help evaluators understand the process of conducting targeted, comprehensive evaluations. In addition to providing step-by-step directions for the implementation of C-SEP, the manual provides information regarding the alignment with special education law, publisher guidance, and evaluators’ professional judgment. Additionally, the manual consists of a case study using C-SEP. Finally, several resources are provided to assist evaluators in the implementation of C-SEP.
