american acoustic labs

Has anyone heard of theis brand before. I did a prelim search and some said they were a worthy bookie and some said they were kinda white van type. These have butyl surrounds fused protection a 2way w/ tweeter adjustment. I can't find the model #.

Skip I kinda agree w/ you but since they were gifted by a maintanance guy in my deveolopment I took them in. They are clearly better sounding than my JBL-J2060 which have become a disappointment to me. Not in my ist slot of speaker selector the 2Bs still rule the roost. Yes I googled them also and reviews are all over the map..

American Acoustics Labs or AAL were made by the Mitec Group which later became MTX. These speakers were very popular in the Midwest in the 1980s as they were made in Winslow, IL. When the car audio boom hit, the company decided to focus on car audio rather than home audio; thus the popularity (or lack thereof) of MTX audio for the last 25 years in car audio. They are neither white van speakers nor high end. They were aimed at the general population, a step above most Japanese speakers of the 80s, but a step below AR, JBL, Polk and others of the day. I would compare them to Cerwin Vega in that they are extremely efficient and can play extremely loud. If you could describe what the bookies look like, I could probably tell you the model. I am thinking they are probably the d-2500 or d-2550 from the mid 80s

By the way, I grew up about 10 miles from their factory. If I can't answer a question, I probably know people who can.
